Built for AS/NZS 3017 Compliance from Day One
Australian installation testing isn’t optional — and neither is accuracy. The MI3136 has Pass/Fail limits preset to AS/NZS 3017, so there’s no second-guessing whether a loop impedance result actually passes or whether you need to cross-reference a fuse table manually. The built-in fuse tables handle that evaluation automatically based on the selected area group. Built-in help screens give on-site guidance when you need it, without pulling out a manual.
For initial verification and periodic inspection of low-voltage TT and TN systems — the bread and butter of residential and commercial electrical work under AS/NZS 3000 — the MI3136 covers every mandatory test:
- Continuity at 200 mA (for earth resistance and equipotential bonding) and 7 mA (for general resistance)
- Insulation resistance at 50V, 100V, 250V, 500V, and 1000V test voltages
- RCD testing — trip time and trip current for 10 mA through 1000 mA, with 0° and 180° starting polarity
- Fault loop impedance (L-PE, L-L, L-N) and prospective short-circuit current
- Line impedance

Sockets in Seconds — No Trailing Lead Required
One of the most time-consuming aspects of socket testing on larger jobs is running trailing leads across a floor or down a hallway for every outlet. The MI3136 eliminates that step entirely. Its socket test function checks earth continuity, polarity, and correct connections in a single push-button operation — directly from the socket, no trailing lead needed.
Combine that with Auto-Sequences that chain up to six individual tests into one push-button sequence, and high-volume socket testing on large residential or commercial installations becomes significantly faster. Auto-sequences can be configured for standard installation verification workflows, or customised for specific job types — RCD-heavy commercial work, new subdivision wiring, or periodic inspections under a specific test regime.
Record, Report, and Move On
Paper-based test records are a liability. A missed entry, an illegible reading, or a misfiled result creates compliance exposure you don’t want. The MI3136 stores test results internally and connects via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to Metrel Cloud — allowing you to manage test structures, upload results from the field, and generate professional PDF reports without returning to a PC first.
Back at the office or workshop, Metrel ES Manager (BASIC licence included) lets you build test structures, manage customer job histories, and produce polished reports for clients and regulators. EV Charging Station Testing Ready
With EV charging infrastructure rolling out across Australian residential, commercial, and light-industrial sites, the capacity to test Mode 3 EVSE charging stations is increasingly part of an electrician’s scope of work. The MI3136 supports the optional A-1532XA EVSE Adapter, which turns the tester into a dedicated EVSE verification tool for Type 2 charging stations — performing electrical safety and functional testing from a single push button and generating compliant test reports.
Note: The A-1532XA adapter is available separately. For field technicians working on EV charging installation projects, this represents a practical capability extension without investing in a standalone EVSE tester.
Remote Probe for Difficult Access
Like the Fluke TP165x, the optional A1401 Remote Probe allows the MI3136 to reach sockets and test points in panel boards, cabinets, and ceiling-mounted outlets where the standard probe set can’t reach comfortably. This is particularly useful on large commercial or industrial sites where distribution board testing is part of the scope. The Remote Probe is included in the MI3136 Kit — or available separately.
What the MI3136 Is (and What It Isn’t)
The MI3136 is Metrel’s newest mid-range installation tester — the direct replacement for the MI3152, which is now at end of stock. It covers every mandatory installation test that Australian electricians need to perform under AS/NZS 3017, plus EV charging station verification with the optional EVSE adapter.
It’s worth being clear about one trade-off: the MI3136 does not support the extended adapter ecosystem available on the MI3155 EurotestXD. If your scope of work regularly includes luxmeter measurements (emergency lighting inspections), cable tracing with the R10K receiver, or current clamp-based earth resistance testing, the MI3155 remains the appropriate choice. The MI3136 is purpose-designed for installation verification — it does that job thoroughly, efficiently, and with professional reporting built in, at a more accessible price point.

What is the difference between the MI3136 and the MI3155?
The MI3136 is Metrel’s mid-range installation tester, covering all mandatory tests under AS/NZS 3017 with touch-screen operation, auto-sequences, and Metrel Cloud reporting. The MI3155 EurotestXD is Metrel’s flagship industrial instrument and supports a broader adapter ecosystem — including luxmeter sensors, cable tracers (R10K receiver), current clamp accessories, and advanced TRMS measurements. The MI3136 does not accept these extended adapters. Electricians whose scope of work includes emergency lighting lux measurement, cable tracing, or current clamp-based earth resistance testing should consider the MI3155 instead.
Does the Metrel MI3136 include a carry bag?
No. The MI3136 standard set does not include a carry bag. A soft padded bag (A1289) and a large padded bag (A1551) are available as optional accessories. The MI3136 Kit includes the A1551 Large Padded Carry Bag plus a Remote Probe, Resistor Box, 4 m Green Trailing Lead, and Non-Contact Voltage Detector as a ready-to-field bundle.
Can the MI3136 test sockets without a trailing lead?
Yes. The MI3136’s socket test function verifies earth continuity, correct polarity, and correct wiring connections directly from the socket outlet — without requiring a trailing lead. This is combined with Push-button Auto-Sequences (up to 6 tests per sequence) to enable fast, high-volume socket verification on residential and commercial installations.
What reporting software does the Metrel MI3136 use?
The MI3136 includes Metrel ES Manager BASIC, which enables test structure creation, result management, and professional PDF report generation via PC. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity allow direct upload to Metrel Cloud Storage (optional licence), with the Metrel Cloud App providing mobile access for field-based job management. Advanced reporting functionality is available with the MESM PRO licence upgrade.
