The Yokogawa WT333E is the three-element member of the WT300E series — the model you need when the neutral carries current. It measures three-phase four-wire (3P4W), three-voltage three-current (3V3A), 3P3W and 1P3W systems, giving true total power on unbalanced loads plus per-phase data on all three phases. ±0.1% reading + 0.05% range accuracy, DC to 100 kHz, and built-in efficiency computation. The complete answer for 400/415 V distribution work.

When two elements aren’t enough

There’s a specific and expensive mistake that gets made on three-phase measurement: using a two-element meter on a four-wire system.

On a balanced load you might not notice. The numbers look plausible. But the moment the load is unbalanced — and in a real building, a real factory, a real solar installation, it always is — the two-wattmeter method stops giving you correct total power on a four-wire circuit. Current is returning through the neutral, and a two-element instrument has no channel measuring it.

The Yokogawa WT333E digital power meter is the three-element answer. Three voltage inputs, three current inputs, one per phase, with total power calculated as the straightforward sum: P∑ = P1 + P2 + P3.

That’s not a clever algorithm. It’s just having enough channels — and on a four-wire system, three is the number.

Four wiring configurations, one instrument

The WT333E is the most configurable model in the WT300E series, supporting:

Three-phase four-wire (3P4W). The configuration that matters most in Australia. Our distribution standard is 400 V (nominally 415 V) phase-to-phase with a 230 V phase-to-neutral relationship — a four-wire system by design. Every commercial switchboard-fed load, every mixed single-phase-and-three-phase installation, every unbalanced building distribution is 3P4W. Total voltage, current and power are summed across all three elements, giving correct results regardless of balance.

Three-voltage three-current (3V3A). The three-wattmeter method applied to a three-wire system. You don’t strictly need three elements on a three-wire circuit, but 3V3A gives you something two elements can’t: individual voltage, current and power data for each phase, plus improved handling of distorted and unbalanced conditions. Total apparent power is computed as (√3/3)(S1 + S2 + S3).

Three-phase three-wire (3P3W). The conventional two-wattmeter method, if you want it.

Single-phase three-wire (1P3W). Split-phase measurement.

The practical upshot: one instrument on the shelf covers every wiring configuration you’re likely to encounter, and you don’t have to make a purchasing decision about your future measurement problems today.

Per-phase visibility, which is the point

Total power tells you what the system draws. Per-phase data tells you why.

With three elements, the WT333E gives you voltage, current, active power, apparent power, reactive power, power factor and phase angle for each element independently — and frequency measurement selectable from the voltage or current of element 1, 2 or 3.

That’s what turns a power meter into a diagnostic instrument. Phase imbalance that’s overloading one conductor. A power factor problem isolated to one leg. A harmonic issue that only appears on the phase feeding the drives. None of that is visible in a summed total.

Accuracy and bandwidth

Basic power accuracy is ±(0.1% of reading + 0.05% of range) at 45–66 Hz, consistent across all measurement ranges. Yokogawa states that WT332E and WT333E performance matches that of the WT310E.

The influence at power factor 0 is ±0.1% of apparent power between 45 and 66 Hz — half the previous generation’s figure. On three-phase distribution work this is the specification that decides whether your measurement is useful. Reactive-heavy loads, lightly loaded motors, capacitor banks and no-load conditions all sit at low power factor, and at low PF the influence term dominates your total uncertainty.

Bandwidth is DC and 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz, with voltage and current converted simultaneously through a 16-bit A/D at approximately 100 kS/s. Simultaneous conversion is what preserves the phase relationship between the voltage and current channels — and phase error is what destroys power accuracy on any waveform that isn’t a clean sinusoid. Which, on a modern distribution board feeding inverters, LED drivers, UPS units and variable-speed drives, is most of them.

Where the WT333E does work others can’t

Three-phase four-wire distribution measurement. Unbalanced building loads, mixed-phase installations, commercial plant. Correct total power plus per-phase diagnosis.

Unbalanced load analysis. Identifying which phase is carrying the imbalance, quantifying it, and having the per-element data to prove it.

Three-phase efficiency measurement. Efficiency computation is built into the WT333E (as it is on the WT332E, and unlike the single-element WT310E). Measure a converter, transformer, drive or motor input against its output on one instrument, one timebase, one calibration.

Motor and rotating machinery duration testing. Integration runs to 10,000 hours — approximately one year. With the /C7 Ethernet option, Modbus/TCP feeds Yokogawa’s GA10 data-gathering software, which can combine your electrical measurements with temperature, torque and rotation speed data across up to 200 channels. That’s a complete motor test dataset in one logging environment.

UPS conformance and evaluation. Input and output levels, efficiency, frequency and THD, with average active power under integration mode giving a true consumption figure for fluctuating loads.

Harmonic and power quality investigation on three-phase systems. With the /G5 option, PLL-synchronised harmonic analysis to the 50th order on all three elements, with a settable maximum THD order — so you can see harmonic content phase by phase rather than as an aggregate.

Three-phase product development and QA. USB standard, GP-IB (–C1) or RS-232 (–C2) at order, /C7 Ethernet with Modbus/TCP and VXI-11 for recorder and PLC integration, and the /DA12 option for twelve channels of ±5 V analogue output — sized for the parameter count that three elements generate.

Australian context worth knowing

The 3P4W capability is the reason this model matters here. Australian LV distribution is four-wire, and a great deal of commercial and industrial measurement work involves loads that are meaningfully unbalanced. The WT333E’s 300 V and 600 V voltage ranges cover both the 230 V phase-to-neutral and 400/415 V phase-to-phase relationships directly.

Now the important caveat, and it deserves to be blunt: the WT333E is a measurement category CAT II, 600 Vrms instrument. Yokogawa’s documentation states plainly that it is a measurement category II product and must not be used for measurement categories III or IV.

CAT III covers facility circuits — distribution boards and circuit breakers. CAT IV covers power source circuits such as entrance cables. So while the WT333E is the correct topology for four-wire systems, it is a bench, test-rig and machine-terminal instrument, not a switchboard instrument. If your job is measuring at the distribution board itself, you need an instrument rated for that category, regardless of how good this one’s specifications are. That distinction is a safety matter, not a paperwork one.

Order the –R power cord suffix for the AS-standard plug. Supply is 100–240 VAC (90–264 V permitted) at 48–63 Hz, 70 VA maximum.

The instrument is Class A under EN 55011 — an industrial-environment device. Operating it in a residential area may cause radio interference, and correcting that interference is the user’s responsibility.

Why buy the WT333E from us

The three-element decision usually comes down to one question, and it’s worth getting right before you order: does your system have a neutral that carries current? If yes, you need three elements. If no, two will do — and we’ll tell you that rather than sell you up.

We’ll also work through the option codes with you. /G5 harmonics, /C7 Ethernet, /EX1 or /EX2 external sensor input and /DA12 analogue output are factory-fitted at time of order. Getting the configuration right at purchase is considerably cheaper than discovering the gap three months into a project.

We’re a test and measurement specialist. We supply, we support, we calibrate, and we’re around after the sale. Tell us what you’re measuring and we’ll help you spec it.

What is the Yokogawa WT333E used for? The Yokogawa WT333E is a three-element digital power meter used to measure three-phase four-wire (3P4W), three-voltage three-current (3V3A), three-phase three-wire and single-phase three-wire systems. Three elements give correct total power on unbalanced four-wire loads plus individual voltage, current and power data for every phase — making it the model of choice for three-phase distribution measurement, motor and drive efficiency testing, UPS evaluation and phase-by-phase harmonic analysis.

Why do I need three elements instead of two? Because of the neutral. On a three-phase four-wire system, current returns through the neutral conductor, and a two-element instrument has no channel measuring it — so on an unbalanced load, a two-element meter will not give correct total power. Three elements measure each phase independently and sum them (P∑ = P1 + P2 + P3), which is correct regardless of balance. If your system genuinely has no current-carrying neutral, two elements are sufficient and the WT332E will do the job.

Can the WT333E measure 400/415 V three-phase in Australia? Its 600 V range covers 400/415 V phase-to-phase and its 300 V range covers 230 V phase-to-neutral, and the 3P4W wiring configuration matches Australian LV distribution. However, the WT333E is a measurement category CAT II, 600 Vrms instrument and Yokogawa states it must not be used for CAT III or CAT IV measurements. That makes it suitable at machine terminals and on test rigs fed from a fixed installation, but not for measurement at distribution boards, circuit breakers or service entrance cables.

What is the difference between the WT332E and WT333E? The number of input elements. The WT332E has two and supports 1P3W and 3P3W wiring. The WT333E has three and adds 3P4W and 3V3A configurations, plus per-phase data on all three phases and frequency measurement selectable from any of the three elements. Accuracy, bandwidth, current ranges, voltage ranges, physical size and options are otherwise the same.

What is 3V3A and when would I use it? Three-voltage three-current is the three-wattmeter method applied to a three-wire system. You don’t need three elements on a three-wire circuit for total power, but 3V3A gives you individual phase data that the two-wattmeter method cannot, and handles unbalanced and distorted conditions better. Use it when you want per-phase diagnostic detail on a three-wire load. Total apparent power in 3V3A is computed as (√3/3)(S1 + S2 + S3).

Does the WT333E measure harmonics on all three phases? With the /G5 harmonics option fitted, yes — harmonic measurement applies to all installed elements. It uses PLL synchronisation across a fundamental frequency range of 10 Hz to 1.2 kHz, analyses to the 50th order, and allows the maximum order used for THD calculation to be set by the user. Without /G5 the instrument measures RMS, voltage mean and DC values but not harmonic components.

Can the WT333E calculate efficiency? Yes. Efficiency computation is built into both the WT333E and the WT332E. Because both the input and output measurements are taken by the same instrument on the same timebase and the same calibration, you avoid the synchronisation and relative-drift errors that come with running two separate power meters and reconciling their logs afterwards.

Two elements mean you can measure input and output on one instrument and calculate efficiency directly — no second meter, no spreadsheet. With ±0.1% reading + 0.05% range accuracy, DC to 100 kHz bandwidth and 0.5 A to 20 A direct current input, it's built for motor, drive and UPS evaluation.

Two elements, one instrument, an efficiency number you can defend

Here’s a situation every drive and motor engineer recognises. You need the efficiency of a variable-speed drive: power in versus power out. So you set up two power meters, sync them as best you can, log both, export both, align the timestamps, and hope neither instrument drifted relative to the other during the run.

The Yokogawa WT332E digital power meter removes that whole exercise. Two independent input elements in one chassis, sharing one timebase, one A/D architecture and one calibration. Efficiency is computed inside the instrument. There is no timestamp alignment problem because there are no two timestamps.

That’s the practical case for a two-element meter, and it’s the reason the WT332E sits in so many drive-development and UPS-conformance benches.

What two elements actually buy you

The WT332E gives you two voltage inputs and two current inputs, and it supports two wiring configurations:

Three-phase three-wire (3P3W). This is the two-wattmeter method — the standard technique for measuring total three-phase power in a delta or three-wire star system without a neutral connection. Two elements are mathematically sufficient, and the WT332E does the summation for you: P∑ = P1 + P3, with apparent power derived as (2/√3)(S1 + S3) and reactive power as Q1 + Q3.

If your load is a three-phase motor, a delta-connected heater bank, an inverter output stage, or any three-wire distribution circuit, the WT332E measures it correctly with two elements. Adding a third element buys you nothing on a three-wire system.

Single-phase three-wire (1P3W). Two live conductors and a neutral. Common in split-phase supplies and in some industrial and transport applications.

Efficiency computation. This is the function that separates the WT332E and WT333E from the single-element WT310E — the two- and three-element models compute efficiency internally. Measure the input on element 1 and the output on element 3 and read the result directly.

Accuracy that holds up under scrutiny

Basic power accuracy is ±(0.1% of reading + 0.05% of range) at 45–66 Hz, and it holds across every measurement range rather than just a favoured one. That last point sounds like a footnote and isn’t — plenty of instruments quote a best-case range and quietly degrade elsewhere.

More importantly for motor and drive work: the influence at power factor zero is ±0.1% of apparent power between 45 and 66 Hz, half the figure of the previous generation.

Why that matters practically. A lightly loaded induction motor might run at power factor 0.3. At low PF, your total error is dominated by the low-power-factor influence term, not the reading error. Halve the influence term and you materially tighten the uncertainty on exactly the measurements that are hardest to make — no-load losses, standby losses, and the low-load end of an efficiency curve where the interesting differences live.

Voltage and current accuracy in the same 45–66 Hz band is ±(0.1% of reading + 0.05% of range). Yokogawa notes that the performance of the WT332E and WT333E matches that of the WT310E.

Bandwidth for inverter-driven loads

Modern three-phase loads are rarely fed a clean sine wave. A VSD output is a PWM waveform with high-frequency switching content riding on a variable fundamental. Measuring it with a meter designed around 50 Hz sinusoids produces confident, wrong numbers.

The WT332E covers DC and 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz, sampling voltage and current simultaneously at approximately 100 kS/s through a 16-bit A/D converter. Simultaneous conversion matters here: multiplexed instruments introduce a phase error between voltage and current channels, and phase error is precisely what corrupts a power measurement on a distorted waveform.

The auto data update rate function handles the other half of the problem. When a motor is spinning up or a drive is ramping, the input frequency is moving. Fixed update intervals either miss detail or fail to synchronise. Set the WT332E to AUTO and it detects the input cycle automatically, covering fundamentals down to 0.1 Hz.

Applications where the WT332E is the right call

Three-phase motor testing. Duration testing and efficiency measurement for industrial motors and rotating machinery. Integration runs to 10,000 hours — roughly a year of continuous logging. With the /C7 Ethernet option, Modbus/TCP lets Yokogawa’s GA10 data-gathering software combine your electrical data with temperature, torque and rotation speed from other instruments, up to 200 channels.

Variable-speed drive development. Input power, output power, efficiency, harmonic content and THD from one instrument. The /G5 harmonics option adds PLL-synchronised analysis to the 50th order with a settable maximum THD order.

UPS conformance and evaluation testing. The WT332E measures input and output levels, efficiency, frequency and THD for UPS performance testing — and the average active power function under integration mode gives a genuine consumption figure for loads that fluctuate rather than draw steadily. One instrument covers what would otherwise be a two-meter setup.

HVAC and refrigeration plant evaluation. Three-phase air conditioning, chillers and compressor packages evaluated for power draw and efficiency across duty cycles.

Distorted and special-waveform devices. Square waves, intermittent waveforms, chopped drives. The wide bandwidth and average active power measurement mean you don’t need special modes or workarounds to get an honest RMS and power figure.

Production line and QA on three-phase product. USB is standard; GP-IB (–C1) or RS-232 (–C2) is chosen at order; the /C7 Ethernet option adds Modbus/TCP and VXI-11 connectivity to Yokogawa recorders and FA-M3V PLCs. The /DA12 option provides twelve channels of ±5 V analogue output — three times the channel count of the single-element model, which is what you need when you’re logging two elements’ worth of parameters.

Australian context worth knowing

Australia’s standard three-phase supply is 400 V (nominally 415 V) between phases at 50 Hz. The WT332E’s 300 V and 600 V voltage ranges cover phase-to-phase measurement on that system directly.

Be clear on where it belongs, though. The WT332E is a measurement category CAT II, 600 Vrms instrument. CAT II covers equipment powered through a fixed installation and measurements made on that wiring. Yokogawa explicitly states it must not be used for CAT III or CAT IV measurements — that rules out distribution boards, circuit breakers, sub-mains and service entrance work. This is a bench, test-rig and machine-terminal instrument, not a switchboard instrument. If your work is on the switchboard side, you need a differently rated tool.

Order the –R power cord suffix for the AS-standard plug. Supply is 100–240 VAC at 48–63 Hz, 70 VA maximum, so it runs on Australian mains without an adapter.

What is the Yokogawa WT332E used for? The Yokogawa WT332E is a two-element digital power meter used to measure three-phase three-wire (3P3W) and single-phase three-wire (1P3W) power. Its two input elements allow input and output power to be measured simultaneously on one instrument, so efficiency is computed internally — making it well suited to variable-speed drive development, three-phase motor testing, UPS conformance work and HVAC plant evaluation.

How many elements do I need for three-phase measurement? It depends on the wiring, not the phase count. A three-phase three-wire system (delta, or star without a current-carrying neutral) requires two elements — the two-wattmeter method is mathematically complete, so the WT332E is the correct choice. A three-phase four-wire system with a neutral requires three elements, which means the WT333E. Choosing two elements for a four-wire system will produce incorrect total power on any unbalanced load.

Can the WT332E calculate efficiency? Yes. Efficiency computation is built into the WT332E and WT333E (it is not available on the single-element WT310E). Measure input power on one element and output power on the other, and the instrument computes efficiency directly — with both measurements sharing the same timebase and the same calibration, which eliminates the drift and synchronisation errors inherent in a two-meter setup.

What is the difference between the WT332E and the WT333E? The WT332E has two input elements and supports 1P3W and 3P3W wiring. The WT333E has three input elements and adds three-phase four-wire (3P4W) and three-voltage three-current (3V3A) configurations. Electrical specifications, accuracy, bandwidth and current ranges are otherwise identical. Choose the WT332E for three-wire systems and efficiency measurement between two circuits; choose the WT333E if you need four-wire measurement or phase-by-phase data on all three phases.

Can the WT332E measure the output of a variable-speed drive? Yes. Bandwidth of DC and 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz covers PWM switching content, and voltage and current are converted simultaneously at approximately 100 kS/s so no phase error is introduced between channels — which is what preserves power accuracy on a distorted waveform. The auto data update rate function tracks a changing fundamental frequency during ramps down to 0.1 Hz.

Is the WT332E suitable for measuring 415 V three-phase in Australia? The 600 V voltage range covers 400/415 V phase-to-phase measurement directly, and the instrument runs on Australian 230 V, 50 Hz mains. However, it is a measurement category CAT II, 600 Vrms instrument, which Yokogawa states must not be used for CAT III or CAT IV measurements. That means it is appropriate at machine terminals and on test rigs fed from a fixed installation, but not for distribution board, sub-main or service entrance measurement.

How long can the WT332E log for? Integration runs for up to 10,000 hours — approximately one year. Auto ranging remains available during integration for ±Wh, Ah and DC current, so a load step partway through a long run doesn’t invalidate the result. With the /C7 Ethernet option, Modbus/TCP allows continuous data capture into Yokogawa GA10 software alongside temperature, torque and speed data on up to 200 channels.

The Yokogawa WT310E is a single-element digital power meter built for engineers who need to measure very small currents accurately — from a few milliamps of standby draw right up to 20 A RMS. With ±0.1% reading + 0.05% range basic power accuracy, DC and 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz bandwidth, and free IEC 62301 standby-power software, it's the reference instrument for appliance energy testing, ENERGY STAR® submissions and R&D benches.
Ask most labs to measure 500 W and they’ll nail it. Worse, the errors aren’t random — they’re systematic, and they tend to under-report. If you’re submitting appliance data for an energy-efficiency claim, a compliance file, or a product datasheet, a systematic error is a liability, not a rounding issue.

The WT310E solves it with genuine measurement engineering rather than clever averaging: a dedicated 5 mA current range, a 16-bit A/D converter sampling both voltage and current simultaneously at approximately 100 kS/s, and a shunt-based floating current input that behaves predictably at the bottom of its range.

What the WT310E actually is

It’s the single-input-element member of Yokogawa’s WT300E family — a half-rack, 213 mm wide, 3 kg benchtop instrument that measures single-phase two-wire (1P2W) circuits.

One element means one voltage input and one current input, wired across a single load. That’s exactly what you want for testing an appliance, a power supply, a battery charger, a set-top box, an LED driver, a small motor or any 230 V single-phase device — which describes the overwhelming majority of product-level energy testing done in Australia.

Yokogawa has been building compact digital power meters since 1979. The WT300E series is the fifth-generation platform in that lineage, and the “E” revision lifted the basic power accuracy to ±0.1% of reading + 0.05% of range at 50/60 Hz across every measurement range — not just a headline range — while halving the low-power-factor error to ±0.1% of apparent power.

That last figure matters more than most spec sheets let on. At power factor zero, the low-PF influence term dominates your total error budget. Halving it is the difference between a defensible standby-power number and an argument with a certification body.

Where the WT310E earns its keep

Standby and off-mode power testing. The 5 mA range delivers a measurement resolution down to approximately 100 µW, and the instrument’s effective input range starts at 1% of range — putting genuine microamp-level current measurement within reach. Yokogawa’s free Power Consumption Measurement (PCM) software drives the WT310E through the stability algorithms specified in IEC 62301 Edition 1.0 and 2.0 (the reference standard behind EN 50564:2011, and the basis for AS/NZS 62301 in the Australian and New Zealand market). The software captures voltage, current, power, frequency, THD and crest factor of the supply — the full evidence set a test report needs. Note that the harmonics option (/G5) and a low-distortion supply are required for THD/CF capture.

ENERGY STAR® and SPECpower submissions. Same story, different scheme. If you’re generating data for an international efficiency programme, the WT310E is one of the instruments those programmes are written around.

Appliance and whitegoods development. Australian importers and local manufacturers evaluating induction cooktops, washing machines, refrigerators and heat-pump appliances need one meter that covers both the 2 W standby state and the 3 kW running state. The WT310E’s twelve current ranges from 5 mA to 20 A (crest factor 3) do exactly that, and the range-skip (range configuration) function lets you pre-select only the ranges a given test needs — cutting range-transition dead time and shortening tact time on a production line.

Battery chargers and DC-driven devices. DC power accuracy of ±(0.1% of reading + 0.2% of range), plus charge/discharge energy measurement in both ±Wh and ±Ah, makes the WT310E a practical charger-efficiency and battery-drain instrument. Integration runs for up to 10,000 hours — roughly a year — with a fixed or auto range.

Distorted and intermittent waveforms. DC and 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz bandwidth (maximum 6 A input above 30 kHz) means square waves, chopped waveforms and special-waveform-driven devices measure correctly without special modes. The average active power function under integration gives you a true consumption figure for devices that pulse rather than draw steadily.

Production line and QA test rigs. USB is standard. GP-IB or RS-232 is selected at order (–C1 or –C2). Ethernet is a /C7 option that also brings Modbus/TCP for direct hand-off to Yokogawa GP10/GM recorders and GA10 logging software, plus VXI-11 connectivity to FA-M3V PLCs. Add the /DA4 option for four channels of ±5 V analogue output into a data logger.

The functions that quietly save you time

Auto data update rate. Fluctuating input frequency — a motor spinning up, a variable-speed drive changing state — normally forces you to compromise on update interval. Set the WT310E to AUTO and it detects the input cycle and adjusts, covering inputs down to 0.1 Hz.

Auto ranging during integration. Conventionally, integration mode locks your range. Exceed it and the result is wrong and the test is repeated. The WT310E performs high-speed automatic ranging within integration mode for ±Wh, Ah and DC current, so a long overnight run doesn’t get thrown away because the load stepped up at hour three.

Crest factor 6A mode. In 6A mode, the rated voltage or current range remains valid up to 260% and displays to 280%.
What is the Yokogawa WT310E used for? The Yokogawa WT310E is a single-phase digital power meter used to measure the power consumption of electrical products — most commonly for standby power testing, ENERGY STAR® and IEC 62301 compliance work, appliance development, battery charger evaluation and production-line QA. It measures single-phase two-wire circuits with a basic power accuracy of ±0.1% of reading + 0.05% of range at 50/60 Hz.

How low can the WT310E measure current? The WT310E’s lowest current range is 5 mA (crest factor 3), with an effective input range starting at 1% of range — which puts practical measurement down into the tens of microamps. On that 5 mA range the meter offers a maximum power resolution of approximately 100 µW, which is what makes sub-watt standby measurement reliable rather than approximate.

What is the difference between the WT310E and the WT310EH? Both are single-element power meters. The WT310E covers twelve current ranges from 5 mA to 20 A with DC and 0.1 Hz to 100 kHz bandwidth, making it the low-current specialist. The WT310EH is the high-current variant: six ranges from 1 A to 40 A, direct 40 A RMS input without external sensors, and a narrower DC to 20 kHz bandwidth. Choose the WT310E for standby and product testing; choose the WT310EH for induction heaters and high-current equipment.

Can the WT310E measure three-phase power? No. The WT310E has one input element and measures single-phase two-wire circuits only. For three-phase three-wire or single-phase three-wire measurement, use the two-element WT332E. For three-phase four-wire (the 400/415 V configuration common in Australian distribution), use the three-element WT333E.

Does the WT310E measure harmonics? Only with the /G5 harmonics option fitted. The /G5 option adds PLL-synchronised harmonic analysis up to the 50th order over a fundamental frequency range of 10 Hz to 1.2 kHz, plus THD calculation with a user-settable maximum order. The option is factory-fitted at time of order, so it must be specified when purchasing.

Is the WT310E suitable for switchboard testing? No. The WT310E is a measurement category CAT II, 600 Vrms instrument, intended for equipment powered through a fixed installation such as a wall outlet, and for measurements on that wiring. Yokogawa explicitly states it should not be used for CAT III or CAT IV measurements, which covers distribution boards, circuit breakers and service entrance work.

What software comes with the WT310E? WTViewerFreePlus is included at no charge and handles instrument setup, numeric capture, harmonic values, trend graphs and data saving to a PC via USB, GP-IB/RS-232 or Ethernet — up to 200 parameters, and up to four connected WT300E series units of the same model code. Yokogawa’s separate Power Consumption Measurement (PCM) software, also free, runs IEC 62301 Ed. 1.0 and 2.0 standby power test procedures.

YOKOGAWA DL950 ScopeCorder Oscilloscope+Data Recorder

As companies develop more energy efficient technologies for transportation, home & industrial appliances as well as new renewable energy sources, the YOKOGAWA DL950 is designed to offer manufacturers a highly detailed view of an application’s electrical and mechanical behaviour.

Providing a unique combination of the high-speed sampling and signal fidelity of an oscilloscope and the long-term data recording capabilities of a recorder, the DL950 measures signals at a high bit resolution while securing data in harsh environments. Building on the capabilities of the well-established DL850E, the new DL950 ScopeCorder can handle larger amounts of data at a faster sample rate and with a longer recording time. It has a large acquisition memory up to 8 Gpoint, and a 200 MS/s sample rate at 14-bit, compared to the DL850E’s 100 MS/s at 12-bit. This is twice the sample rate but with much more detail. The DL950 can run up to 32 isolated analogue channels with 10 MS/s at 16-bit or up to 128 digital channels.

The dual capture feature offers both data acquisition recorder functionality and the sample speed and trigger features of an oscilloscope. This allows developers to analyze the finest waveform details while observing multi-channel measurements over longer periods. The DL950 offers five options for acquiring data, allowing users to choose the best method for their application. You can opt for normal acquisition into the fast internal acquisition memory, recording to flash memory (coming soon), recording to the internal hard disk (SSD) or directly to the PC via normal Ethernet or opt for 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

The DL950 provides ultimate versatility, as it can be connected to 21 types of input modules. These include 12-, 14- and 16-bit isolation modules, universal voltage/temperature modules, acceleration/voltage modules, strain modules and frequency modules.

Up to five DL950s can also be synchronized to allow the use of up to 160 voltage channels. Alternatively, up to 640 temperature channels can be used, employing 16 channels with eight slots for each of five DL950 units. The subunits can be synchronized to start and stop their measurements via signals from the main unit.

Multi-channel measurement application

Motor control & inverter circuit development
Limitation of 4 channel scope
Whole-system measurement is impossible with a four channel scope; the real difficulty is measuring the timing between IGBT gate signals within the inverter.

Voltage and current measurements between 3 phases and the IO of the motor driver IC is a very challenging test with a four channel scope. The truly practical solution is an eight channel MSO.

Electronic control unite & mechatronic test
Limitation of 4 channel MSO
The additional logic inputs of a four-channel MSO mixed signal oscilloscope provides enough channels, but this method has a blind-spot. Digital waveform analysis using logic inputs alone cannot reveal anomalies such as voltage drift, noise, distortion or ringing, and measure rise-fall times. ECU testing requires stringent examination of all digital waveforms – and analogue input channels are the best tool for the job.

8 channels
The key to efficient and reliable high performance electric motors is the modern inverter design, or ‘Intelligent Power Module’. Multi-channel, highspeed waveform measurement is an absolute necessity. Four channels are simply not enough. Boasting eight true analogue inputs, the DLM5000 empowers today’s engineer with a convenient and comprehensive measurement system.

Numerous I/O analog, digital, and serial-bus waveforms surrounding the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) must be measured. The DLM5000 offers ample channel-count and architecture to monitor eight analogue channels and up to 24-bits of logic input while simultaneously performing protocol analysis such as UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, CAN FD, LIN, CXPI and FlexRay. The DLM5000 can speed up the R&D process when four channels are not enough.

YOKOGAWA AQ6377 Optical Spectrum Analyzer

Lasers are commonly used for the detection of gases such as CO2, N2O and NO in environmental monitoring. This detection is achieved by identifying the wavelength absorption lines of the different gases. Howeve the “side modes” of the laser, which are difficult to detect, reduce the laser’s ability to distinguish between the different gases.

This Yokogawa AQ6377 Optical Spectrum Analyzer has been designed to overcome this difficulty in the wavelength range from 3.5 to 5 µm (mid-infrared). It has a wavelength resolution of 0.2 nm, a wavelength accuracy of ±0.5 nm, a dynamic range of up to 50 dB and a level sensitivity of up to -60 dBm.

Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), used in particular for medical spectroscopy diagnostics, operate using a pulsed technique. The AQ6377 analyzer is capable of making measurements over the entire wavelength range and evaluating pulsed QCL signals with a low repetition rate.

Improvement in dynamic range and sensitivity has been achieved by reducing the influence of stray light in the monochromator. The integrated calibration light source takes advantage of the natural absorption properties of acetylene gas to provide a wavelength calibration signal at 0.6 picometer precision. This source also has automatic optical alignment to compensate for any drift in the optical axis caused by vibrations and shocks during transport, as well as drift due to temperature changes.

In addition, the free space optical input allows both single-mode and multi-mode MWIR fibers (up to 400 µm) to be connected to the same optical spectrum analyzer, and ensures low insertion loss. The absence of physical contact also avoids the risk of damage when the fibers are connected.

Spectral measurements can be strongly affected by the absorption of water vapor and carbon dioxide. The purge function of the AQ6377 is designed to significantly reduce the influence of these gases by continuously supplying pure purge gas (such as nitrogen) to the monochromator via dedicated connectors on the rear panel.

Easily maintained due to the built-in Calibration Function and wavelength reference source.

Close-in dynamic range: 50 dB

Horizontal scale also in Wave Number (cm−1)
In addition to the commonly-used scales in wavelength (nm) and frequency (THz).

Purge Feature

Due to the high resolution and sensitivity of the AQ6377, it can actually detect the presence of water molecules in the air. The water vapor is detected in the upper Near-IR wavelength region and could overlap with or mask the spectral characteristics of the actual device under test in that particular region.

By continuously supplying a pure purge gas such as nitrogen to the monochromator through the ports on the back panel, the AQ6377 can reduce the influence of water vapor absorptions and provide more reliable and accurate measurements than ever before.

Built-in Cut Filter for High Order Diffracted Light

Due to the diffractive technology used, the monochromator in some circumstances could generate high order diffracted light, which appears at wavelengths equal to the integral multiple of input wavelengths.

By cutting incoming light below 1500 nm with the built-in filter, the AQ6377 drastically reduces the influence of high order diffracted light on the measurement. Thus, the measured data are always reliable and replicate the real signal under test.

Double Speed Mode

Increases the sweep speed up to 2 times compared to the standard sweep mode, with only a 2 dB penalty to the standard sensitivity value.

Free-Space Optical Input

The AQ6377 uses a free-space optical input structure (i.e. no fiber is mounted inside the instrument), most effective for guaranteeing high coupling efficiency, measurement repeatability, and no maintenance.

This smart solution is:

WORRY-FREE: no internal fiber can be scratched or get dirty by inaccurate coupling of fibers

MAINTENANCE-FREE: no internal fiber has to be cleaned

VERSATILE: the instrument accepts both /PC and /APC connectors

DUAL PURPOSE: the instrument accepts both Single-Mode and Multi-Mode fibers without being affected by the high insertion loss from MM-SM fibers matching
