<p><span class="bolded-headline">The LT300 </span>Light Meter measures up to 40,000 Fc (or 400,000 Lux) utilising a remote light sensor connected via 12 in. coiled cable (expandable to 24 in.).</p>
<p>A prominent LCD readout displays a digital calculation and complementary analogue bar graph for quick, reliable assessments.</p>

<h4>Measurement Procedure</h4>
<p>1. Remove the protective cap from the sensor so that the white domed light sensor is exposed to the light. For overhead lighting, the sensor can be placed on a desk or table top. A tripod<br />
mount and a tilt stand are located on the rear of the meter for convenience.<br />
2. The display will indicate the light level in Fc or Lux.<br />
3. Press the RANGE button to select the range that provides the maximum resolution. If the ‘OL’ appears the light measurement is out of range. Select another range using the RANGE button.<br />
4. Press the backlight button to illuminate the LCD display if needed.</p>

<p>Lux is the unit measurement of illuminance and luminous emittance in the <strong>International System of Units (SI).</strong> One Lux (Latin for “light”) is the amount of illumination provided when one lumen is evenly distributed over an area of <em>one square metre</em>.</p>
<p>One foot-candle is equal to one lumen per square foot or approximately 10.764 Lux. In practical applications it is sufficient to think of one foot-candle as about ten lux as is typically done in the lighting industry.</p>

<p><b>Ultraviolet</b> (<b>UV</b>) is electromagnetic radiation with a wavelength from 10 nm to 400 nm, shorter than that of visible light but longer than X-rays. UV radiation constitutes about 10% of the total light output of the Sun, and is thus present in sunlight. It is also produced by electric arcs and specialized lights, such as mercury-vapor lamps, tanning lamps, and black lights.</p>
<h3 class="page_heading">What is the difference between UVA, UVB and UVC?</h3>
<p>The three types of UV radiation are classified according to their wavelength. They differ in their biological activity and the extent to which they can penetrate the skin. The shorter the wavelength, the more harmful the UV radiation. However, shorter wavelength UV radiation is less able to penetrate the skin.</p>
<p>Short-wavelength UVC is the most damaging type of UV radiation. However, it is completely filtered by the atmosphere and does not reach the earth&#8217;s surface.</p>
<p>Medium-wavelength UVB is very biologically active but cannot penetrate beyond the superficial skin layers. It is responsible for delayed tanning and burning; in addition to these short-term effects it enhances skin ageing and significantly promotes the development of skin cancer. Most solar UVB is filtered by the atmosphere.</p>
<p>The relatively long-wavelength UVA accounts for approximately 95 per cent of the UV radiation reaching the Earth&#8217;s surface. It can penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and is responsible for the immediate tanning effect. Furthermore, it also contributes to skin ageing and wrinkling. For a long time it was thought that UVA could not cause any lasting damage. Recent studies strongly suggest that it may also enhance the development of skin cancers.</p>

<p><strong>What Is a Light Meter?</strong><br />
A light meter measures the amount of visible light, also known as illumination, in a given area. For many meter brands, including Extech, illumination is expressed in units of measure called Lux (for metric) and foot-candles (used in the US).
