DC measurements are available on all instruments. Most applications can be covered with voltages as high as 10 V generated internally. It is also possible to apply bias voltages of up to 40 V externally.

All measured values are recorded up to 10 times per second using the fast logging function.

The advanced analysis function allows you to perform dynamic impedance measurements. These sweep measurements determine the impedance values for a series of frequency values or other parameters.

Digital I/O ports can be used to trigger and control measurements externally. Using the binning function, the measured components can be sorted by their values into eight categories.

The Extech LCR200 is useful for manufacturing facilities performing QC and testing, as well as for individual users that need to validate and sort a range of components in custom projects. Unlike the capacitance and resistance capabilities of a digital multimeter, this affordable-yet-advanced meter provides enhanced accuracy and the advantage of inductance. For your circuit testing, the LCR meter enables you to test a range of important secondary parameters such as the Quality, Dissipation, θ (Phase), and Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR) of your components with both series and parallel modes.

Extech LCR200 Features

The Extech LCR200 measures inductance, capacitance, and resistance

Tests secondary parameters of Q (Quality), D (Dissipation), R (Resistance), θ (Phase), and ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance)

Higher accuracy than DMMs

Built-in test fixture

5 preset test frequencies

Dual display with bargraph

Key Functionality

With the Extech LCR200 you can see simultaneous 20,000/2,000 count displays of the primary parameter on the high contrast backlit display coupled with a segmented bargraph display. You can set Hi/Lo limits using absolute values or percentage limits and test with 5 preset frequencies. Open and Short Zero removes unwanted stray impedances from the measurement. Use the built-in test fixture or external test leads (included). You can expand the functionality of your LCR200 with several optional accessories (not included): SMD Component Tweezers (LCR203) and a plug-in SMD Chip Component Fixture (LCR205). A soft pouch storage case (CA900) is also available. The LCR200 has an Auto Power Off function that can also be disabled and a low battery indicator to alert you when to replace the batteries.

Open/Short Calibration

In order to improve the accuracy for high/low impedance measurements , it is recommended to do OPEN/SHORT calibration mode before the measurement. This removes stray impedances in test leads or fixtures.

Press the CAL button for greater than 2 seconds to start the open/short calibration procedure:

The “CAL” icon and “OPEN” appear in the display

With no component connected, press the CAL button. The display will count down from 30 and either “PASS” or “FAIL” will appear in the display.

Press the CAL button and “Srt” will appear.

Short the input and press the CAL button. The display will count down from 30 and either “PASS” or “FAIL” will appear in the display.

Press the CAL button to exit the cal mode.

If PASS appeared for both the OPEN and SHORT modes, the calibration data will be saved to external EEPROM.

If FAIL appeared for either calibration, the impedance was too large to zero out and the data is not stored.

How to use Reed R5001 Data hold LCR meter

Test Frequency Functions
When measuring capacitance, commonly a 1kHz test frequency is used to measure capacitors that are 0.01μF or smaller. For capacitors that are 10μF or larger, a lower frequency of 120Hz is used. Based on this settings, a high-test frequencies are best for testing very low capacitance components. For large capacitance components, low frequency would be optimal.

When you use this instrument for measuring inductanceinductors below 2 mH should be measured at 1kHz frequency while inductors above 200H should be measured at 120Hz.

Test Frequency Select
The test frequency can affect the accuracy of the results depending on what frequency is selected and what type and value of a component is being measured or tested. The meter has five test frequencies: 100Hz/120Hz/1kHz/10kHz/100kHz. To set the “Test Frequency”press the Frequency Button to scroll through the five frequencies sequentially.

Primary Impedance with Secondary Parameter Test
“Auto-LCR Mode”, will check the type of impedance and automatically. To switch from “Auto-LCR” Mode to “Auto-“L Mode, “Auto-C” Mode, “Auto-R” Mode, and “DCR” Mode, Press the Function Button. When Auto-L or Auto-C Mode are selected, the impedance measurement is auto ranging. The Reed R5001’s primary LCD display will show the inductance or capacitance of DUT (device under test); the secondary LCD display will show the quality or dissipation factor. Press the Secondary Display/Left Button to display the D/Q/ θ/ESR value. When Auto-R (ACR mode) or DCR mode is selected the secondary parameter is omitted.

Series or Parallel Functions
Most capacitance measurements will obtain best results with parallel mode selected. Most inductance measurements will obtain best results with series mode selected.

Series/Parallel Measurements
When any L/C/R function is selected, the default measurement will be automatically selected. If the impedance is greater than 10kΩ, the meter will select the parallel mode and “Lp/Cp/Rp” icon will be displayed on the LCD screen. The meter will automatically select the “series mode” in case of 10kΩ less impedance. “Ls/ Cs/Rs” icon will display on the LCD. You can set the impedance measurement in series mode or in parallel mode sequentially by pressing the Parallel/Series/Right Button.

Data Hold
Press the Hold Button to activate data hold function and “freeze” the current measurement on the display. Press the Hold Button again to deactivate it.

Relative mode
This function able you to reserve the current DUT readings (DCUR) on the primary display as a reference value (DREF). To activate this, press the Relative/Down Button. The secondary display will show the percentage of the relative value (REL%). Press the Relative/ Down Button again to show the reference value (DREF) on the primary display; The percentage range is -99.9% to 99.9%. When the relative value is larger than double the reference value (DREF), the symbol “OL%” will appear on the secondary display.
