Test circuit breaker and switchgear contacts with confidence using the Megger DLRO600, a 600 A high-current micro-ohmmeter built for busbar joints, breaker contacts, and welded connections that low-current testers can't properly stress-test. Four-terminal Kelvin measurement cancels lead resistance for readings down to 0.1 µΩ. Compact at 14.5 kg, it stores 300 results on board and downloads via RS232. Ready to test right out of the box.

The Problem: Low-Current Testing Doesn’t Tell the Whole Story

A circuit breaker contact can look perfect on a standard milliohm test and still fail under load. That’s because contact resistance readings taken at 1 A or 10 A don’t reveal how a joint behaves when it’s actually carrying fault current or heavy switching loads. Loose bolted busbar connections, pitted breaker contacts, and degraded welded joints often pass a low-current check and then run hot — or fail outright — the moment real current flows through them.

For electrical contractors, substation maintenance crews, and industrial reliability teams working across Australia’s electricity network, this gap between “tests fine” and “performs fine” is a genuine risk. A missed high-resistance joint in a switchboard or substation bus can mean nuisance tripping, localised heating, insulation degradation, or in the worst case, a thermal event during a planned outage window when there’s no time to re-test and re-terminate. Standard multimeters and clamp meters simply aren’t built to inject the current levels needed to properly qualify these connections, and general-purpose micro-ohmmeters rated for a few amps won’t replicate real-world switching or fault conditions either.

The Solution: High-Current Testing in a Compact, Field-Ready Package

The Megger DLRO600 addresses this directly by pushing test current up to 600 A DC — a level that genuinely exercises high-current joints the way they’re meant to be exercised, rather than just sampling them at a token current. It measures resistance from 0.1 µΩ up to roughly 1 Ω, using a four-terminal (Kelvin) technique that separates the current-carrying leads from the voltage-sensing leads. This cancels out test lead and contact resistance from the measurement, so what’s on the display is the actual resistance of the joint under test — not an artefact of how far the leads run or how hard the clamps are gripping.

What makes the DLRO600 genuinely practical on-site is the balance Megger has struck between output power and portability. It weighs less than 14.5 kg and measures roughly 410 x 250 x 270 mm, which is remarkably compact for an instrument capable of sustaining 600 A for over 60 seconds continuously at 20°C ambient. That’s enough grunt to properly test large busbar joints and circuit breaker contacts without the instrument becoming the bottleneck in your test sequence, and it’s light enough that one technician can carry it into a switchroom or up to a substation bay without a trolley.

Three test modes cover the range of jobs contractors actually face. Auto mode is built for repetitive testing — connect the current leads to a busbar run once, then simply touch the potential leads across each joint in turn; the DLRO600 detects the connection, fires a test automatically, and stops, which speeds up multi-joint busbar surveys considerably. Normal mode runs a single 7-second test cycle for one-off contact checks. Continuous mode holds current flowing and refreshes the reading every 2 seconds, useful for monitoring a joint’s behaviour as it’s flexed, torqued, or thermally cycled during commissioning work.

Built for the Way Australian Trade Professionals Actually Work

Every result — up to 300 of them — can be tagged with a note via the on-board alphanumeric keypad and stored in battery-backed memory that retains data for up to 10 years, which matters when you’re compiling a compliance report weeks after the site visit and need to remember which reading came from which panel. Results transfer via RS232, either in real time to a printer or in batch to a PC running Megger’s Download Manager software, so field data becomes a proper test report without manual transcription.

The DLRO600’s power supply tolerates 207–265 V at 50/60 Hz for full-rated output, which sits comfortably within Australia’s 230 V nominal single-phase supply and its normal tolerance band — no step-up transformer or special site power needed for standard mains circuits. Reduced output is still available down to 100 V, useful where site power is constrained. The instrument carries IEC61010-1 safety and IEC61326-1 EMC compliance, the baseline international standards that AS/NZS 61010.1 and AS/NZS 61326.1 are aligned with for Australian electrical test equipment.

Where the DLRO600 Earns Its Keep

The DLRO600’s power supply operates at full rated output from 207 V to 265 V at 50/60 Hz, which comfortably covers Australia’s 230 V nominal single-phase supply and its standard tolerance range without needing a step-up transformer.

Auto mode automatically detects when potential leads make contact and fires a test, which speeds up sequential busbar or multi-joint surveys. Continuous mode holds current flowing and refreshes the reading every 2 seconds, useful for monitoring a connection while it’s being worked on.

The MEGGER DLRO2 Low Resistance Ohmmeter can measure low resistance values across a wide range of applications, from railways and aircraft to industry components.

The DLRO2 is a tough, hand-held 2 Amp low resistance ohmmeter. It’s designed to provide fast, accurate, repeatable measurements, even in electrically noisy locations. The DLRO2 is the latest in a long line of instruments to proudly display the Ducter™ brand, the Ducter™ testers being as well-known and relied upon as Megger insulation resistance testers.

For the utility or industrial user, a high level of safety is provided with a CATIII 600 V/CATIV 300 V rating to IEC61010. In addition, the instrument can protect itself from inadvertent connections to up to 600 V without blowing a fuse, thereby avoiding essential time lost due to repairs or finding a replacement fuse

This tough device comes with a brand new ‘difference’ meter that allows repetitive measurements to be easily compared with an initial reference measurement. The difference meter also translates the percentage difference to a needle/pointer movement, making the changes clear to see.

If your applications require long test leads, then the Megger DLRO2 can provide this without compromising test speed or safety. It has a dedicated long lead test to optimise the output, and this long test lead function is able to provide up to 1 A of test current into 4 ohms resistance.

The Megger DLRO2, with its optional cable reel test leads, is therefore ideal for testing wind turbine and avionic lightning protection applications.

The Megger DLRO10HD 10A Micro Ohmmeter combines ultimate simplicity of operation with a rugged IP65 case and is designed for stable ground and bench operation. The unit is powered from either its rechargeable battery or line power making it suitable for continuous testing in production line/repetitive use environments. Rotary switch controls are simple and easy to operate in all weather conditions and with gloved hands. A large, clear, backlit LCD display is easy to read from a distance.

The DLRO10HD 10A Ductor provides significantly enhanced compliance and is capable of delivering 10 A into measurements up to 250 mΩ and 1 A into measurements up to 2.5 Ω. The duration of each test may be up to 60 seconds.

The DLRO10HD 10A Micro Ohmmeter is rated CAT III 300 V. A range of test leads is available to suit the application.

The 10A Ductor provides five test modes each of which is selected through a simple rotary control: Rotary mode switch with bidirectional (current reversal with averaging cancels thermal EMFs), unidirectional, automatic, continuous and inductive modes.

Automatic unidirectional mode applies current in one direction only to speed up the measurement process. However thermal EMF resulting from dissimilar metal bonds can cause lower accuracy. Test starts automatically when probes are connected.

Continuous mode allows repeated measurements to be made on the same sample. Simply connect the test leads and press the test button. The measurement is updated every three seconds until the circuit is broken.

Inductive mode is selected when measuring resistance on, for example, motors and generators. When measuring inductive loads it is necessary to wait for the voltage to stabilize as the inductive element is charged. Test leads are firmly connected to the device under test and the ‘Test’ button pressed. The instrument will pass the selected current through the sample continuously in one direction only and take repetitive readings that will gradually decrease to the true value as the voltage stabilizes. The operator decides when the result is stable and presses the ‘Test’ button to terminate the test.

The DLRO10HD includes the following accessories:

DH4 duplex handspike 1.2m

Test lead pouch (lid mounted)

DLRO10HD user guide CD

Warranty book
